Saturday, March 8, is International Women's Day — usually a special holiday in the Democratic Republic of Congo and at our schools. Celebrations likely will be low-key if at all because of rebel violence in the region. But we don't want to let this special day go by without honoring the women and girls of the world, especially those in vulnerable situations. If you'd like a meaningful way to celebrate, consider giving to our emergency fundraiser. Thank you for all you do for the women and girls of Congo Restoration.

I wanted to give you a quick update on the situation around our primary all girls school and our sewing school.

The village where our schools are is fairly calm, although the high costs of food and fear are taking a toll on local residents.

The students at our all girls’ school have been back in school for almost two weeks. The girls, their families, and our staff are all safe from the violence and looters who came through here last month but the situation seems to change daily.

We will send updates as this situation progresses. Please keep Gorethy, her family, our students and staff, as well as all the people of Eastern Congo in your thoughts and prayers. And please spread word about this tragic situation.

Our emergency fundraiser is wrapping up on Sunday. As always, we appreciate your help and continued support. You can donate here (through Facebook) and here (through our website).

Many thanks for all the ways you lift up the women and girls of Eastern Congo.

Emergency assistance

The photo to the left is the current state of our sewing school after looters emptied it in the chaos of the rebel attack. The photo on the right was taken recently at our all girls’ primary school. Your help has never been more important. Any contribution you can offer will make a difference in helping us support our students, staff, and families of Congo Restoration.

You can donate through our Facebook fundraiser or on our website here.
